JOYGURU
JOYGURU dances on the ridge between chaos and clarity, plays two saxophones at once, taps out bone rhythms, whistles and whispers melodies. Improvised spaces, loud silence, groove that asks instead of answers – getting quirky, promised!
Herbert Könighofer – saxes, flutes, vocs., synth
Thomas Hierzberger – bass
Florian Tuchaček – drums
Multifaceted stories, nicely wrapped up in danceable two-step collages or even pretty unagitated minimalism, summed up in a 1 ½ hrs. show. When Herbert Könighofer performs with his unique “TwoSaxesOneFace” technique, spiced up with scat vocals and accompanied by a screeching rock guitar, a film music ready main theme evolves that makes the audience jump!
Tom Hierzberger on bass, Florian Tuchaček on drums and Herbert Könighofer on various flutes and saxes, on voice and synths, take the programme title and make it their agenda!
JOYGURU – India Edition
Jazz, Ambient, Indian, Loops, Experimental and more!
For decades, Herbert Könighofer has been dedicated to blending jazz with Indian music. Through numerous tours with the Austrian-Indian fusion project k3 goes India and Brian Brain – club audioprovocateur across India and Europe, as well as collaborations with outstanding artists like Ranajit Sengupta (sarod) and Sucheta Ganguly (vocals), he has perfected the art of musical fusion.
Alokesh Chandra, a former student of Ravi Shankar, is not only a master of the Indian sitar but also a storyteller of a special kind. His music is profound, meditative, humorous, and full of vitality—a perfect complement to the improvisational artistry of jazz.
Florian Tuchaček impresses with his boundless enthusiasm and versatility on drums, making the trio a dynamic and cohesive unit.
Long before the Beatles’ legendary India tour, European music had already caught the “India fever.” While Indian influences have largely disappeared from pop music, they have remained in jazz and world music. The improvisational roots and openness of both jazz and Indian musical traditions make them a perfect match.
With the universal language of jazz, the Könighofer – Chandra – Tuchaček trio creates music without boundaries, taking the audience on a journey to new sonic landscapes. Listeners can immerse themselves in a world of magical sounds, captivating rhythms, and deep emotions.
