Off the Beaten Tracks
No fixed routes, no timetables, no final destination.
Finnish musician Samuli Korpi and Austrian multi-instrumentalist Herbert Könighofer join forces for an adventurous journey through unexpected musical landscapes.
Finnish accordionist Samuli Korpi and Austrian multi-instrumentalist Herbert Könighofer join forces for an adventurous musical journey beyond familiar routes.
Korpi brings his distinctive approach to Finnish folk music, performing his own folk-inspired compositions on the diatonic accordion and exploring the boundaries between tradition and experimentation. His album PERINTEITÄ?! reflects a playful and questioning relationship with musical heritage.
Könighofer adds an eclectic instrumental palette, ranging from flutes, electronics and saxophones to the ancient bowed lyre talharpa. Their musical encounter combines traditional sounds, unconventional textures and spontaneous interaction.
Korpi’s piece Sivuraide (Finnish for “sidetrack”) captures the spirit of this collaboration. In a video recorded in Helsinki, Korpi performs his composition on accordion, accompanied by Könighofer on two flutes — an intimate dialogue that opens up unexpected musical directions.
Sometimes raw and rhythmic, sometimes fragile and atmospheric, their music travels freely across genres, borders and centuries.
Mind the gap between genres. This train is going somewhere else.
